The faraily and friends of Mr. T. F. O'Sullivan, for many years in the Colonial Civil Service, are distressed on account of the fact that he is missing.
Until invalided out of the Ser- vice some years ago, Mr. O'Sul livan was well-known as a balliff at the Supreme Court, He went into Hospital for treatment, and was considered sufficiently recover- ed to receive his discharge re- cently.
However, he disappeared from his home on Thursday, and has not been seen since, in spite of a search in which the Police have given assistance,

Shanghai, May 9. Heavy casualties among the Kuominchun forces are reported following severe fighting be- tween the Nationalist and Kuo-† minchun forces under General Sun Tien-ying at Pochow in Northern Anhui yesterday, re- sulting in the Kuominchun Divi- sion being almost annihilated.
The Division under General Sun Tien-ying has been reduced to a little over a thousand men and in view of the adverse situation they have had to abandon Pochow and are retreating towards the Anhui- Honan frontier.
Nationalist Attack. Reporting the hatile at Pochow which lasted yesterday evening until this morning. official Nan king reports say that two Nation alist Brigades opened attacks on shortly the Kuominchun forces after nine o'clock last evening, as sailing the city from two direc-

The Nationalist forces were as- sisted by heavy artillery which were effectively employed with dis astrous results to the Kuominchun defenders. The main body of the Kuominchun Army under Sun Tien-ying retreated from Pochow City at four o'clock in the after- noon, with the Nationalists in hot pursuit.

With the simultaneous outbreak of hostilities between the Nation- alist and Shansi armies along the railways in North China, necces- sitating the daily expenditure of huge sums for the maintenance of allied the Shansi-Kuominchun * forces, Marshal Yen Hsi-shan has instructed the Chinese Municipal Government at Tientsin to enforce a new 2.6 per cent taxation on all imported cotton yarns and matches, The enforcement of the new many com- taxation has caused plaints from the merchants and the Tientsin Chinese Chamber of Com- merce has wired to Taiyuenfu stat ing that the merchants threaten a

It is understood that Marshal Chiang arrived at Tsining in Shantung at four o'clock in the morning and expects to arrive at Taian ahortly afternoon to-day to meet a number of Nationalist commanders who are due from the Shantung capital to confer with
