Capes

Whether you are a female tall or short,

large or small, young or sensible, or even a dead-ringer for Venus de Milo, this spring you must have a mantle of mystery draped on your shoulders

JOU may suit yourself smartly this spring, or cloak yourself

Y with lady like dignity. But you just won't be chic if you

forget the capeline t

On dresses, suits, coats,

There are 'capes all over the place. coats, afternoon frocks, sports things and evening gowns, you meet the cape theme face to face.

Since there are capes on everything, you just should see to it that there are some on you. You might as well play the fashion game according to the rules. And the cape rules!

Your type should guide you on the kind of cape you don. If you are tall and very thin, the suit or coat with a deep cape collar tends to lessen your inches. If you are one of those lucky little bings." by all means slide into a cape suit or a cape frock. They are youthful, graceful and ladylike." What more can you ask of this year's clothes?

IF you have long arms that have seemed a little ungraceful to you at times, try the cape sleeves. If you have short arms, try an afternoon dress with the tiniest little cape caps over the top of the shoulder. If you have fat arms, get a suit that uses half capes over the top of the sleeves attached to the inside seam. They create the illusion of movement and grace, and do a lot for the arm.

Consideration of the cape collar is perhaps the most sucessful way to start understanding the cape situation. Get a spring coat with a cape collar, preferably a detachable one. That way you can be two persons in the same coat, one rather dressy one, with the cape collar. the other rather tailored. with the collat left home and a soft printed frock's jabot showing at the front of the coat.

REMEMBER that the cape collar can be divided down the back to lessen your width; it can be pointed to give the elect of more height. It can cross the shoulders if you are too narrow through the chest and it can cover the areas of a sleeve- less frock with a gesture of piquancy. It's all in 'learn- ing how to adapt the cape to your own peculiar style. Do not take the saleslady's opinion on it, Try differ- ent capes on and see which do something for you. Then buy that cape.

On this page is shown a group of new cape costumes of such wide range that it is sure to include some styles suitable for everyone.

I. IF you do not happen to be girlish and know you

can't

get away with it. it pays to capitalize your dignity. Capes do this, too. In an evening gown of pale gray georgette Worth uses a cape theme that is cut like a bolero with the decolletage cut right into it, but it is joined at the under the arm seams to that it affects the back only.

The skirt fits snugly over the hips and then grows hvish, featuring a wide sash that ties on the side, on the order of a side train. There is something regal and commanding about the entire gown, which is relieved by the flowers of the mate- rial that dance gaily around the very bottom of the skin.

PAGE THREE

1. Worth presents a cape that is hardly a cape, but a low-cut bolero in this gray georgette and "valvot evening gown,

III. Heim places this amusing ermine cape collar on am evening gown of pale blue chiffon.

II. REMEMBER the importance of wool voiles and wool georgettes if you are thinking of getting yourself a dressy little spring tailleur. One from Jane Regay in navy. blue wool marquisette has a cape collar you can take off and leave home, if you feel like wearing a fox fur or a scarf. But I don't believe you'd take it off often because it is tremendously chic, tied in a bow knot in front,

too.

The suit itself has youth in every line below the cape collar, There is a flaring skirt for you, if you feel like walking, and the hip-length coat is belied around the waistline to show just how slender you are.

You can wear any number of different kinds of blouses with a suit like this and look different with each one.

But

its very own blouse is of white chiffon, with a pintine check, and it has a youthful round neck, with smocking on both shoulders to give a little fullness and softness.

III. ANOTHER "girlish" type of collar comes with a de- lectable pale blue chiffon evening dress. It is an amusing little collaret of ermine. Coquettish as anything, soft and femi- nine, it is the trickiest of all the cape themes. Of course few girls can afford ermine. But white lapin is a good substitute. And there is nothing to prevent a girl's copying the idea in accordion- pleated chiffon!

.

The triple tiers of the frock are distinctly youthful and new. suggesting a little more intrigue and mystery than the straight skirt. A high waistline is necessary in order to secure the best effect with the tiers.

IV. ANOTHER cape suit that is especially appropriate for some of you young things is a reddish brown tweed flecked' with beige that is sportsy, but a little more elaborate. It is made with hiplength cape that has slits for the arms to come through, and it has a collar with tie ends so you can secure it loosely in front if you chouse.

The blouse is made of beige and reddish brown flat crepe, with a cute little yoke, and vestee of beige georgette. The flare below the knees in the skirt and the swinging cape make it a jaunty little outfit indeed.

V. IF you are a schoolgirl, a young business woman or a lei- surely miss who devotes her days seriously to having a good time, you will be likely to approve the choice of a fancy checked blue and white woel cape suit from Mag-Helly. It really is a little frock with normal belied waistline, long sleeves that tie in feminine manner at the wrists, and a little collar bound in blue that ties in front.

It is heat and chic and has nothing on it that has to come for cleaning. The cape is the piece de resistance.

It is wrist length, has fitted. shoulders and does not fasten, but just stays in place in the name of chic. You can slip it off and have a cute dress for indoors. slip it on and strut down the stree or across the golf links, because there is no denying that it adds periness to the costume.

II. Jane Regny chooses a de. tachable cape collar which ties in a bow in front for this charming spring tail- leur with finger-tip length, coat.

V. Mag-Helly uses blue and -white 'checked, wool for this sports suit using an 'extremely full and un- modified wrist length cape..

IV.

A hip.length cape with slits for the arms is featured in this new Mag-Helly tweed suit.
