TESTING NOW BEING

CARRIED OUT.

The work of installation of the automatic equipments int the three new Exchanges, viz., Central, Kowloon, and Peak, has now been completed and the testing out of some has been proceeding day and night with a view to bringing the new system into operation at the earliest possible date.

It will, of course, be appreciat ed that the testing out of the equipments to ensure that they will function satisfactorily both as regards their mechanical and electrical operation is a very necessary and most important procedure preparatory to bring- ing into service this highly.com plicated machinery where even a speck of dust on one of the switch connecting points-of which there are considerably more than one million has the result of making the connexion ineffective.
