A feature of the afternoon's sport was the inclusion in the two teams of a number of ladies, some of whom showed

The match resulted in a tie, both teams scoring 60 shots, and, in con- sequence, an extra head was played between Mr. Wotherspoon's and Mr. Ferguson's rinks. The play in this head was watched by a large number of interested spectators, and, amid great cheers, Mr. Wotherspoon's rink won by one shot and, incidentally the match for the President's team.

Making History.

After the game, those present adjourned to the Club house, where Mr. J. Russell, before asking Mrs. Shaw to present the spoons to the winning team, expressed his thanks for the attendance that afternoon, a factor which cuntributed to the success of the day's function.

Continuing, Mr. Russell said that they had had many an opening day, bus on this occasion they had made history for

for Taikoo Club and for the Colony, by including ladies amonget the players. (Applause). He was sure that they would all agree that the quite a success and change had been they looked forward to the ladies of Quarry Bay upholding the bowling traditions of Taikoo Club.

The speaker also said he was pleased to see Mr. and Mrs. Greig with them. Referring to Mr. Shaw, he said it was the first opportunity that the Club, as a whole, had had of meeting him in his capacity as President of Taikoo Club.

Mr. Russell also thanked Mr. and Mrs. Phillips, saying that they all appreciated very much the help of those two people in. their recreation and social life-two items which materially helped to keep the wheels going round without' jar or friction.

To revert to the innovation to-day." he added, "I should like to say to those who look on the green as the pre- serve of the, men, to be good sports and assist the ladies on the bowling green as much as they appreciate their presence at dances and their help in pouring out ten.

"I have to thank our President and Vice-Presidents for their generous offer to provide the spoons this after- noon," concluded Mr. Russell.

The President's Thanks. After distributing the spoons, Mire. Shaw herself was presented with one as a memento of the occasion and was accorded three hearty cheers.

Speaking on behalf of both Mrs. Shaw and himself, Mr. Shaw thanked the Club for asking her to distribute the spoons. It was a great honour to him, he said, to be asked to be Pre- sident of the Club.

He was very pleased to attend the day's function, want on Mr. Show. He was invited to attend this time bu whether he was or not on the next ocension he would be present just the sume(Laughter).

Mr. K. E. Greig also spoke, saying that he enjoyed the game very much. He remarked on the high standard of play during the dag, especially that of the ladies, which, he said, was very good indeed.

Taikoo Club had earned for itself a name in the local competition in past years and he expected to see them win the League this year.

Continuing, Mr. Greig remarked that there had been nothing on his rink to take exception to regarding
