Refusal to Pay Fares.
A bus operated by the company had reached a point near Kinochow Road, when four police constables of Jessfield Village boarded the aboard vehicle. Mr. Pelling was the vehicle and was appealed to by the conductor, after the con- stables had abusively refused to pay their fare.
Mr. Pelling approached the constables and in Chinese, which he speaks fluently, requested them to pay the fare. They persisted in their refusal, but upon being informed that they would have to pay or leave the bus, they angrily threw a 20-cent piece, the exact total of the fare, at the conductor.
