Lord Thomson's memorandum, accompanying the air estimates, says that the trials of the airships R100 and R101 were satisfactory but unexpected difficulties deve- loping in the heavy oil engine has necessitated the equipping of the R100 with petrol engines. She is therefore unsuitable for navi gation in the tropics.
The R101 is equipped with the first heavy oil engine ever used as power unit in British aircraft, but, owing to difficulties of weight. etc., it was decided in accordance with the safety-first iicy that an additional bay should be inserted in the R101 before her flight to India and back was undertaken.
The Gibbs Dentifrice meets the modern demand for concentrated usefulness. It does the work of both powder and paste without the mes siness or wastefulness of either.
For everyone, old or young, Gibbs Dentifrice preserves teeth by clean. ing surely, safely, delightfully-and economically. Gibbs Dentifrice costs so little and lasts so long.

programme of fights arranged till April 1931 includes the R100 in a late spring or summer light to Montreal. She will operate during the winter between Cardington and Ismailia. The R101 will fly to India and back in the autumn and will thereafter be used in experimental operation on
the Indian route. This is essential to obtain data with a view to the establishment of a commercial service on this route.
Avoiding Competition,
The increases in the Royal Air Force are small and designed to demonstrate the earnest desire of His Majesty's Government to avoid disastrous competition in air armaments. Hence, the consoli- dation of the existing units in the Home Defence Force will be the main feature of the 1930 pro- gramme. The only new unit will be one non-regular squadron,

to
Lord Thomson mentions that the torpedo-bomber squadron, origin- ally formed as an experimental unit, has been reorganised, for normal service duties with a view to proceeding to Singapore during the current year,
There has been an encouraging increase in applications for per- manent commissions, both from cadetship schools and the Universities. Tribute is paid to the excellent results of the Oxford and Cambridge University air squadrons, vacancies in which have been applied for twice over, -Reuter.
