With batsmen completely in the ascendant, the meeting of the first elevens of the Civil Service and the Hongkong Cricket Club at Happy Valley on Saturday produced more than usually interesting cricket. resulting in defeat for the Club after they had declared their innings. SERIOUS DELAYS IN THE CABLE SERVICE.
London, Jan. 4. Serious trans-Atlantic cable de lays, due to the recent earthquake tremors, still continue, despite stroauous repair work on the part of seven cable ships.
The ships taking part in the work earry.. crows totalling 600 men, but despite this only one cable has been mended so far.
The work is highly complicated owing to the tempestuous weather experienced and the fact that the disturbances moved the eables from their normal positions. The earthquake shock also resulted in the broken cable ends being buried under tons of rock and mud,
