GILBERT REVEALS ART IN

Queen Beo and Curlew assumed the lend about 1.80 p.m. but all three Yachts enjoyed a fair wind, which held all the way down to the mark boat at Macao, which was rounded first by the Queen Bee, followed by Curlew and Norseman. These two first boats nintained the lead until eight o'cinck on Thursday night, when Norseman

overtook Curlew, with Queen Bee about two miles ahead, Up to this time, the craft had been favound with quite a fair wind, but it then dropped and Norseman wa becalmed until 3 a.m. yesterday.

Gilbert is seen in an entirely now and different role, that of a youthful diamond mine mariager in the heart of dark. Africa. His well-known features are masked in a black and heavy beard. Never before in his career has this star had such a forceful and thoroughly dramatic role in which to display his-com- pelling personality.

Ernest Torrence, veteran of the legitimate theatre as well as of the films, has contributed" to his role, that of an English nobleman, a rare bit of decidedly well placed humour. In the early part of the film he poses as a wealthy business man, but is in reality an exceptionally elever crook. He passes from one characterization to the other with perfect grace and ease, showing the wide range of his versatility. Mary Nolan, former Follies beauty, and heroine of "Sorrell and Son," is unusually attractive and appealing in her role ne the bogus daughter of the renegade.

An Indication of how far ahead there buats were of the remainder of the contestants was afforded them when they were halled by Coquette Thursday about half past nine on night, which was then only proceed ing towards the turalng mark.

At the Brothers, La Cigale was slightly in the lead with Azuma bringing up the rear, but later a westerly wind broke them up, La Cigale taking northerly course, whilst U & I con tinued on the same route for the mark, Coquette and Wanderer pur- nued La Cigale. At this time Azuma and Typhoon were becalmed a mile nstern, but alded by light and variable winds U&I made good progrean,

At 7.30pm. on Thursday, however, they had to ride at anchor, and it was not until 6 am. next morning (12 hours after Noiseman) that they rounded the mark,

During the night Coquette spoke to U. & and informed her that Norse- man passed the mark at 5 p.m. on Thursday, but they could get no news of Curlew, After passing the marke U&I made excellent progress and accomplished an excellent perform- ance in finishing so early.
