Sir,-Allow me to draw, through your kindness, the attention of those who have the education of Chinese youths in Hongkong at heart to the evil influence of the Chinese Sian Pao or" "Mosquito“ papers.
A few years ago, one was start. ed. It was the forerunner of as many as 63 kindred papers, For- tunately, many of them were short-lived, only 16 now being in existence. All these "mosquito" papers have, for their material, the private lives of those, whose conduct falls far below mention in polite society, "Street angels," "cafe parasites," etc., are drawn with wonderful vividness. The language, too,. is admirable, being both direct and clear. What adds force to this style of writing is the constant use of colloquialism, slang, and vulgarism.
