"A Formal Protest."
"I did not intend to create any disturbance," said Mr. Duckham,
in conversation with a Press re- presentative after the service. "I merely wanted to make a formal protest, and ask those who sup. ported me to leave the Cathedral with me."
Describing the proceedings he, said, "I started to read the protest against the illegal use of the service, which is unauthorised, when someone ran up, snatched the protest out of my hands, and tore it up. They then commenced to hustle me out," Mr. Duckham Alleged that he was flung over the steps flat on to the floor. "I might have sustained serious in- juries," he said. "All I asked for was my hat to be returned to me and I would go off, but they threw me right outside. They had the courtesy to return my hat after- wards. I took no part in
the service."
Mr. Fowler said they made the protest at the moment because the prayer of Consecration was originally a prayer of Mass, and when the Book of Common Prayer was written, that prayer was divided into the prayer of Con- secration and others. Now, all the prayers had been put together and it was in the new Prayer Book as definitely a Maas prayer. They had protested as Independent

The Bishop's Views,
After the service the Bishop said he desired to make no com- ment or observation on the occurrence except that it was a flagrant breach of the Act of Parliament against Interruption"
that of servico. It was funny they should come and break, an Act of Parliament in order to complain.
After the commencement of matins, à copy of the protest was attached to the notice board In the south-west porch by one of the protesters, but was removed shortly afterwards by an official: of the Cathedral.
