T
no phase of woman's attire are the latest style trends more definitely recognized than
in the new fur coats. Any lingering doubts.
as to the triumph of femininity are dispelled by the unanimous decisions of the furtiers.
It is just as well to face hard facts and get adjusted as quickly as possible this is going to be a difficult season to wear last year's clothes. For several seasons there has been little change in the general line of clothes, Coats particularly have differed but little,in minor details, from one year to the next.
This year the enat achieves an entirely new silhouette-it is no longer a straight garment. wrapped around the figure-it has a definite out- line, with an acknowledgment of the natural waist. fine and greater width at the hem. And it has worked out entirely new ways of trimming collars and cufts. It applies fur with quite a different ideal than ever before, and in every possible way co-operates with the new ideas that have been worked out in dress.
Sleeves particularly are revolutionary-the old fur-banded cuff being quite passe-the new sleeve has a definite cut. It may be bell-shaped, or it. may be close fiting with a bell-shaped cuft that flares back toward the elbows, or it may have its fur banding at the elbows or even above, and the wrist quite plain and fitted. Fur is combining the qualities of warmth and allurement in a more marked degree than it has for many seasons.
The fur collar at this season may be a natural fox scarf that is lightly attached to the coat and won about the throat in any way one would manipulate a separate boa, or it may be a scarf of fur that may be tied into a charming bow at the throat on a very cold day and thrown aside when the weather is less wintry. It may be a fitted Medici collar that frames the face and ab solutely cries for one of the new off-the-forehead Turbans that make some women lock like lovely ladies from the Renaissance,
In skins we find much emphasis on broadtail and caracul. Both are treated like materials. sometimes being pleated and folded as velvet would be. They appear in all shades of tan and brown and shiny black. Mink will be very pop- utar with those who can afford it, as will be sable and dyed ermine. Most interesting garments are achieved of shaved rabbit and of the novelty furt that completely camouflage their humble origin and make magnificent raiment.
Illustrated today are typical models that ex press, each in its own way, the new feeling in fur coats, and show some of the newest and smartest details.
I HOW furs may be effectively combined is demonstrated by this model of dyed caracul with the wide band of dyed lynx at the hemline. This stresses the slim, princess silhouette and the upstanding collar. A nice restraint is shown in making the coat entirely of the caracul except for the hem, and great slenderness and chic is thereby achieved.
II. EVENING COATS were never more
luxuriant and they come in all lengths, some considerably shorter that we are accustomed to see. abbreviated so as to reveal the costume beneath.
A typical example is this luxurious dolman in white ermine banded with Hudson bay sable in golden-brown tones. The combination of ermine and gable is a happy one that brings out the best in both furs.
Fur coats designed for evening wear are often lined and trimmed with velvet and show luxurious linings that harmonize with the fur, instead of forming, a contrast,
III. THE sealed figure is wearing one of this year's loveliest mink models from Gun ther's. It is cut on ample lines, with an easy swing to the skirt. but the whole interest is concentrated on the huge collar which folds over in a luxurious
manner.
The really chic mink coat can never be too extreme, and its beautifully modulated stripes are never po effective as when they are unaccented by trick cutting and intricate patterns. Only a slen der model would wear a collar quite so wide as this one, but on, the tall young woman with a queenly carriage. it is a triumph of line and cut.. IV. ANOTHER rich, and likewise very ex pensive, combination is shown in this other princess model which flaunts a diagonal line of silver fox against à background of black broad. tail. The fox may be worn about the throat when it is desired. The rippling hemline is com pletely in harmony with the flaring cufs and the whole effect is that of grace and lilt.

V CHARMINGLY adapted for the smalles
and shorter woman is this model in summer ermine from Bruck Weiss, with its smartly cut sleeves and the scarf collar that is capable of sev eral different adaptations. Here the lines are sim ple and uncomplicated, and there is no possible suggestion of weight or clumsiness, something the small woman must always guard against in select ing her fur coat.
