PICTORIAL SUPPLEMENT

A STUDY OF THE FISH-HAWK.

DEER-STALKING IN SCOTLAND.

In spite of somewhat unfavourable weather, dear stalkers have been enjoying a good season among the hills and dales of the Isle of Arran on the Duke of Montrose's estate. Our photograph shows the dead

quarry being taken down Glen Rosa on a pony's back. (Times copyright).

Our picture shows a male osprey returning to the nest with a fish clutched In its talons. This photograph was taken on Mr. Clarence Mackay's island off, Montauk Point, Long Island, by Captain C. W. R. Knight. On Mr. Mackay's island, where they are protected, ospreys have increased rapidly. Until 20 years ago they nested in Scotlandy but were gradually exterminated. Captain Knight has brought back some young ospreys, and, having trained them aa falcons are trained, has liberated them in the hope of establishing the osprey again in Scotland. (Times copyright).
