JAPAN'S OFFICIAL

SALARIES.

PREMIER PRAISED FOR HIS ADMISSION OF MISTAKE.

OPPOSITION EFFORT.

Tokyo, Oct. 21,

While general satisfaction is ex- pressed with the announcement of the Government's intention to re voke the decision to cut the salaries, of officials, opinion seems to be: divided on the point of praising the Premier's wisdom in bowing before public opinion and of censuring him for shilly-shallying.

The majority are inclined to praise his courage in acknowledg: ing his mistake, but strong anti- Government elements are attempt- ing to make political capital, out of 'the business, and accusing the Government of chopping and change ing in its policies, are demanding the resignation of the Ministry, or at least, of the Finance Minister, who was undoubtedly responsible for initiating the plan for the re- duction of salaries which was proved so unpopular.

Brilliant Comebacks. There was only one climax in the series to compare with the ninth inning rally to-day and that was in the seventh frame on Sat urday, Saturday the Athletics went into the seventh inning with the Cubs holding an 8 to 0 lead. They snatched victory, from defeat, drove four Cub pitchers to the showers, cracked out two home runs and a flock of bingies and won the games 10 to 8.

The complainant was stated to have been standing watching a fortune-teller in Canton Road, Mongkok, when he suddenly found that a roll of coins had been ex- tracted from his pocket. Noticing the defendant standing near him, he seized the lad, who instantly aceused a man some distance away.

Believing the defendant, the complainant, who had previously searched the defendant without finding anything on him, went after the man indicated and it was whilst walking after the alleged thief together with the defendant that the complainant happened
