Innocent Should Not Suffer. His Worship, said counsel, was upheld in this by two eminent Lord Justices who said that it was better to err on the wrong side by letting off a man than to run the risk of convicting an innocent man. Again, that it was more important that an Innocent man should not be convicted than that a criminal should go free.
His Worship said the grounds upon which counsel had come ba fore him were redsonable ones, it it had not happened that he had already taken them into coa- sideration when he imposed sen- tence. The sentence that was then Imposed was made light in view of the considerations already' taken note of. His Worship added that he found no just cause for a further reduction of the sentence, and it would have to stand.
