Looking up the defendant'sře. cord, his Worship found that he had had clear record for three years and in view of that he would only caution him. However, the defendant was warned that if he was brought up again on the same charge, it would cost him at least $25 and perhaps $50. "In- stead of tooting all the time, drive alowly," advised his Worship.

Miss S. W, Yu and Mr. Loung Sal-yau were also summoned for breaches of the traffic regulations, the former for driving"a car in Pokfulam Road with only a learner's licence, and the latter with allowing her to drive knowing that she was not fully qualified to do so. They both pleaded guilty, His Worship remarked that there were so many accidents that he simply had to inflict heavy fines in cases of that sort,

Mr. Leung was fined $15 and Miss Yu $10.

Kowloon Cases,

Two drivers of public vehicles appeared before Mr. T. S. Whyte Smith at the Kowloon Magistracy: this morning on charges of failing to provide their vehicles with two efficient and independent brakes.

In the first case it was stated by Sub-Inspector Mason that a motor bus required 48 feet in which to pull up at a speed of 15 miles an hour. The foot brake: was for a four-wheel-drive and in normal condition required only 15; to 20 feet to stop.

His Worship imposed a fine of $30.

The driver of a motor lorry was fined $15 owing to the fact that the defciency was discovered whilst the vehicle was undergoing the official monthly test. The foot brake was stated to have required 96 feet in which to stop the lorry.

In Imposing the fine, his Wor ship took into consideration the fact that the defect was discover- ed while the lorry was being officially tested and not while it was actually engaged on the road, "although it was pointed out that the lorry should not have left the garage in that condition,
