At the Dock Gates. Detective Inspector Fallon pointed out that the serious feature was that the defendant had been distributing the pamph- fets at the Kowloon Dock gates at noon, just when the workers were leaving the yard.

Referring to the definition of seditious matter, his Worship re marked that he thought the pre sent case came under the defini- tion "to encourage or incite any person, to interfere with the ad ministration of the law or with and the maintenance of law order." He did not think there

Mr. Dyer made a brief speech In reply, thanking the battalion for their handsome gift, and ad- ding that he would not say good bye to them, as he would always hope to see them again some where.

In his speech of thanks, Mr. Duncan highly praised his chiet and Mrs, Dyer for their generous treatment of troops of every regi ment that had visited. Hongkong. He referred to the time when many more troops were in Hongkong, and when there was a pretty fair would stay prospect that they here. Merely Patriotic.

Mr. Remedios, in asking his Worship to adhere to a sentence of two months" which he at first suggested, mentioned that the de- fendant had only been patriotic to his own party.

Detective Inspector Fallon said that he would not describe it as being patriotic. One part in the pamphlets advocated outrages.

Mr. Remedios intimated that it might refer to Civil Wars in China. The defendant, was remanded till next Thursday as was another Chinese who was arrested at the same time.

The wounding of the three In- thedian guards was one of the worst aspects of the affair, as the shoot- ing was done in cold blood, with- out the unfortunate guards be ing given the opportunity to sur-edged
