LORD JELLICOE'S CALL FOR
FUNDS.
An appeal for £50,000 to main- tain and develop the work of the British Legion was launched by
Lord Jellicoe, ga president, on the eve of the 15th universary of Bri- tains entry into the Great War.
In a letter to the Daily Chronicle dated August 4, the actual date of the anniversary, Lord Jellicor writes:
"During the last few years the British Legion "has been spending an. Increasing proportion of its be- nevolent funds for the purpose of setting up ex-Service men in eni- ployment at home and abroad.
"In view of their very generous responso on Poppy Day, the public may naturally conclude that the Legion will have no difficulty in financing the above schemes; but under the terms of the appeal 85 per cent is returnable to the money localities in which the is rafsed, to be spent in relieving distress among ex-Service men and their families locally.

"Of the areas with which the Legion has to deal, nowhere is distress more acute than in the Irish Free State.
"The Legion has given to these branches in Ireland all that it legitimately can out of the money raised in England. It has, in fact, contributed an amount equal to that raised in the Free State itself. Yet such, help but touches the fringe.
