Bogus Collector,
[To The Editor of Hongkong Telegraph.]
'Sir,--May 1, through your columns, warn residents of Hong- kong and Canton against a young Chinese who, for the last two years, hhs, in both these places, bean collecting money ander false pretences:
He is aged thirty, rather short, shabbily dressed, round
face, clean-shaven.
He has various methods of ap peal. He claims to be in charge of a school and orphanage on Honam Island, Canton, and has a collecting book with a photo of the school and letters of re- commendation signed by several Canton missionaries. This school has now been closed for over two years. He also asks people to donate money to buy Bibles for noor school children or to pay asked students' fees. He even me once to lend money to some old people to buy fowls and anid repay the loan that they would in exga.
...
Yesterday 1 compelled him to coduct me to his school, and, finding it. non-existant, 1 handed him evor to the Police. As he was punished by a fine 1. fear he may seek to reimburse himself by a further collecting tour.
