The police then unexpectedly produced the informer, a Japan- ese by the name of Tamura, who described himself as an advertising solicitor. He related how he had bought a pistol and 100 rounds from the appellant sometime in May, He aid he was in trouble with the Japanese Consular offcials over it and was ordered to serve 15 days' Imprisonment.
Witness expressed ignorance of how the Hongkew police learned that Gunther was a dealer in arms, Mr. Ivanow then stressed the dis crepancy which he said existed bi- tween the evidence of the witness not that formerly given by the police, who, he said had told the court that witness was working in collusion with them.
Witness added that he had paid the appellant 37 for the pistol and 100 rounds. On two previous oc- casions, he said he bought pistols from Gunther and paid $40 and $38 on each occasion.
Gunter denied these allegations and stated that witness had con fided in him a scheme he had for taking easy money from Chinese, In the interior by selling to them a substitution for morphine..
