FUNCTIONS OF CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE.
Nanking, July 22. An important new law of the Government-the law governing the organization and functions of Chambers of Commerce--which was adopted at the last meeting of the Legislative · Yuan, will shortly be promulgated by the State Couneli. The new law con- sists of 44 articles, divided into nine chapters.

According to the provisions of the first chapter, the aim of all Chambers of Commerce should be to develop domestic and foreign trade and generally to promote commerce and industry. A Cham- ber of Commerce shall enjoy the status of a juristic person and its functions shall include: (1) formulation of schemes for the improvement and development of commerce and industry, (2) sup- plying information o malier relating to commerce and industry, (3) commercial arbitration, etc.
A Chamber of Commerce may he established when at least five commercial or Industrial organiza- tions jointly undertake to organize such. It must maintain a regular uillee and fall the requirements of the new law.
The executives of a Chamber of Commerce shall be composed of an Executive and a Supervisory Committee, the members thereof
