There has scarcely been time to try through any of the arrivals of Columbia records, but I have played and thoroughly enjoyed the second album of Chopin Nocturnes, recorded by Godowsky. This pianist is really an artist. Each work is played in a true musicianly manner, with more thought for an unexaggorat- ed Chopin interpretation than for virtuosity or original effects, and the impresstog loft on the listener te that Godowsky really deserves the reputation of being the greatest living' Chopin exponent, To realise his art, it is only neces- sary to compare any one of those. Nocturne records with the playing of Friedman on his latest Colum- bia disc (Rubenstein's Romanzo). Friedman's is an example of com- mercialised piano-playing, and might be tormfod "playing to the gallery.".
