THE LEIPZIG SPRING
FAIR
BAROMETER OF THE WORLD'S TRADE.
The Spring Fair at Leipzig, which opened on March 3, 1929, presents somo novel and starting features even to those experta who regularly visit the Leipzig Fair. The great problem which has oc- cupied the attention of tho management for yours is the adaptation of the Fair accom- modation to the increasing de mand and to the technical require- ments of the time.
For this purpose a division was made some years ago
be- tween articles of use and luxury on the one hand and the means of production on the other. The former group is exhibited at the Samples Fair in the heart of the city, the latter at the Techno- logical and Building Trades" Fair in the enormous exhibition grounds. In both cases develop- ment proceede uninterruptedly. In connexion with the Samples Fair, a large new Fair Palace called "Petershof" has been open- ed. Adjoined to Petors-strasse which has always been the focus of the Leipzig Fair tramc-| "Petershof" serves to concentrate in goodly portion of the exhibits of toys, musical Instruments and Industrial art products,

On the site of the Technological and Building Trades Fair, the now and gigantic Exhibition Hall, of the Building Trades Fair is attracting visitors.
It has become a common inter- national habit to regard Leipzig' Fair as a trade barometer, not merely for Germany, but for the world at large. The measures just referred to in connexion with the development of Leipzig Fair may Indisputably bo considered a favourable omen as regarda inter- national trade.

Just as the Leipzig Fair ex- tends its ares, so too does it in- crease the scope of its exhibits. Consequently, some particulars as to new or augmented groups the Fair will doubtless be of gen- eral interest. For example the electricity branch is exhibiting on a much bigger scale. It has there- fore taken, not only the
"Haus der Elektrotechnik," but also two other large halls, one of which is devoted to the enormously enlarg- ed sample exhibits of the broad- casting industry. Machine-build- ing also participates in essentially augmented proportions. Tho "Verein Deutscher Naschinbau- Anstalten," for instance, is in three large halls; in addition, there is, in its own hall, the cpm- prehensive sample exhibit of the] machine-tool industry. Here, be-l sides the machine tools proper, are such important groups aa:! textile machinery, wood-working machinery and the comprehensive exhibita of electrical apparatua.
Foreign Technology.
Foreign technology is admitted. to the Leipzig Technological Fair on an equal footing with its Ger- man. sister. In point of fact, for- eign countries are participating| this time in considerably greater mensure than ever before. Thus, there is a sample show of Dutch electro-technics, an exhibit of machine-tools from America and other countries, exhibits of textile machinery from France, Great! Britain, Switzerland, Belgium and Holland, as well as a display re:] presenting the Anglo-Dutch caut chouc and rubber Industry, together with the exhibit of Rus- Bian raw materials which has be! come a standing feature of the Technological Fair. The Build- ing Trades Fair can also boast

Textiles.
A considerable increase of for- eign participation is also seen in the Textile Section. France has sent extensive exhibits of Lyons silk and of Alsatian cotton. From Austria there are stands repre. sentative of the. Viennese hosiery and stockinette manufacture. Numerous textile exhibits are, also Included from Great Britain, Czechoslovakin, Switzerland, Japan and Turkey. Besides these sec- tions grouped individually accord- ing to trades, there are numer. 0118 national sections con- prising various categories.
