THE SAMOAN TROUPE.
NATIVE DANCERS TO APPEAR.
Uncontaminated by contact with civilization, dances which have been the real expression of a people for hundreds of years will be seen when the Samoan dancing troupe gives its opening performance to- morrow night at 9.20 p.m. in the Star Theatre.
4
The dances will be given in costumes of "Lapa." The symphony of browns, occurring in the design In this native material, in harmony with the splendid bronze bodies of the dancers, and with the green of "lela" about the neck and bright flowers worn over the ears of tho men, gives a picture which those who have seen it declare unsur- passed. The feature of the per- formance is the "Siva Siva" dùnée which is a collective dance given sented on long lines of woven mats. The war knives of the Samoans have a long hook on the end of the blade, formerly used to catch up the head of the victims. During "The Knife Dance," these knives are hooked into each other and whirled about the head at an alarm- ing-speed
Allogether, a most unusual form of entertainment is promised and Sunday night should see a crowded house at the Star. There will be a short picture programme before the feature attraction.
