INTERESTING EXHIBITION
MATCHES.
Canton, Feb. 22. Some interesting exhibition matches were witnessed yesterday on the courts of the Canton Citizens' Athletic Association in the First Public Park when Mr. Gordon Lum, one of the Chinese Davis Cup players recently defeat ed in America, played against some local champions.
Mr. Gordon Lum arrived from Manila, via Hongkong, yesterday morning and pinyed in the after- noon. He Is leaving to-morrow for Hongkong on his way North to Shanghai.
His first match was a single against Mr. Ma Chl-huen, winner of the Canton Open Championship Singles for the Amerlenn Chal- lenge Cup' in 1928, Mr. Ma was at the top of bla. form and played. brilliant game throughout; even ao, Mr. Gordon Lum outclassed him. They went to two-nll in the Arst act, but Mr. Lum was he coming more and more brilliant every minute as he became accus- tomed to the courls and Mr. Ma was unable to secure another in the two sets though he played an excellent game throughout, Ke- sult, Mr. Gordon Lum defeated Mr. Mn Chi-huen 6/2, 6/0.
The second match was a doubles between Mr. Gordon Lum and Mr. Ng Sze-kwong ex-champlon of Hongkong, against Mr. G. W. Greene, President of the Canton Tennis Association, and Mr. A. A. L. Tuson, II.B.M. Vice-Consul. Though the Europeau pair put up A very fine fight, they were out classed by the Chinese champions who defeated thent by games to 2 in the fret sol, and 6 games to 1 in the second set.
