Question Recently, the engine of my car has failed to start in the usual way and would not, do so after I had injected about a fen-] spoonful of gasoline into each cyclinder, through the spark-plug hole. Can you help me out by tell- ing me what is wrong?

Answer: If the cylinders did not fire, for a time at least, after you primed them as you describe, It looks very much as if there was no apark at the pluga, unless per-j hupa you had already flooded the cylinders with gasoline, by crank- ing the engine for a long time, with the choke closed. You better find: out if the pluga spark, by remov- ing one of them, laying it on top of the block, re-attaching its cable and watching it, while you turn the engine over by the starter. If it does not, there may be something wrong with the ignition-system that you will have to have correct; or it may be only that the starter! takes so much current from thei battery that there is not enough voltage to produce sparks. Perhaps you can get your engine going by priming each cylinder and then cranking it by hand (not by the starter) thus giving the ignition system the benefit of the full bat- tery voltage. If you cannot get

a spark from a plug outside of its cylinder, have the ignition system inspected.
