The Accounts.

We have also given more money "away," which is good. Nearly $1,000 more than in 1927 was given in 1928 to outside objects, This is an advance very much in the right direction. Almsgiving proper does not begin until we ourselves gain nothing from our glving. Contributions towards much of what we call "Church Ex- penses" is for our own benefit. The amount we give to other people indicates the extent of our Christian spirit,
The music of the Cathedral han unquestionably improved. Our thanks are due to Mr. Mason and the members of the choir, and also to the Rev. H. V. Koop, who has contributed much to this improve- ! ment. The new Hymn Supple. mont has been accepted with more readiness than I dared to hope! The Waifs and Strays Society and the Victoria Home have received: greatly increased help in conse- quence. It was cheering to hear from one mother that she has had occasior to say to her son' "If you're not good you won't be al- lowed to go to the Children's Ser- vice."

I think that we have been sue- cessful in improving the lighting of the Cathedral. Much experi- menting was necessary, but the result has justified it, and the cost has been very moderate. The Chancel and Sanctuary only have been dealt with so far. With a view to the possible improvement of the rest of the lighting the Hongkong General Electric Com- pany has kindly had photographs taken, at their own expense, which will be sent to England for export, advice.
Interior Decoration.
The interior decoration of the Cathedral, long overdue, and de- layed all further until the com- pletion of the Chancel lighting, is now in progress. The Sunday evening socials have been carried on throughout the year with a break of somó weeks in the Sum- mer. These are an excellent in- stitution, much appreciated by Service mon especially.
Those who have so splendidly helped with the organisation of them and by providing entertainment have dono a good work.
