Mr. F. H. Loseby, of. MessTS, Russ and Company, prosecuted and the defendant was unrepresented.

In answer to the charge, defen- dant stated that the firm for which: he worked owed him the money. He added that he was able to pro- duce account books to substantiate his statement.

Mr. Loseby mentioned that the $8,000 had been recovered from the defendant's safe and therefore he left the matter of bail entirely in his Worship's hands. The defen- dant had $60,000 in his safe.

His Worship fixed bail of $20,000 cash. The hearing will take place on Monday afternoon next.
