Through this the passengers, one by one, climbed out, and it was then discovered that two of them were more seriously injured than the rest. These are believed to bo Mr. H. K. Hung and a Miss Ellis. The former is said to have injured his collar bone and his right arm and the latter received multiple minor injuries. Both legs. refused to go to hospital on the ambulanco which rushed to the

message

Stranded at Fanling.

A large crowd had assembled at the Fanling Station at 5.80 to meet the special express that was to convey them to Kowloon. Most of the crowd had gone out to see the steeplechasing at Kwants and held return tickets. For these, there was no news at all and at the appointed time, (5.40, p.m.) when the express failed to appear, there were whisperings that some- thing might have caused the delay. Someone elicited the information that a breakdown had occurred on the line, and soon the story was passed from mouth to mouth, until it was so exaggerated that the rumour was current that a good distance of the line was torn up and that there was no prospect of the train conveying any of the holiday seekera to Kowloon that night.
