At the moment when this specta- calar event occurred Herr Stocker was stating that hundreds of thous sands of these, bombs were being manufactured
the secretly at Schichau works, at Elbing, in East Prussia. It was not claimed by Herr Stocker that the bomba col- tained gas, but merely that they were being secretly produced.
This, if it were true, would be a matter to cause apprehension to the League of Nations, inasmuch as the Schichau works, which built de stroyers and torpedo boats before the War, are now supposed to be devoted exclusively to shipbuilding, the manufacture of machinery, locomotives, and other such harm- less industrial producta,
It is categorically denied in the relevant official quarters to-day that! there is any truth whatever in the statement made by Herr Stocker with regard to the Schichau works. Herr Stocker also declared that through the vigilance of his Com- munist friend 164 tons of what was known in the War as "Blue, gos,” a particularly dangerous variety, was recently discovered in Hanover and removed by the police apparent- ly without the matter becoming public knowledge.
