NEW FLATS TO OUST OLD LANDMARK,

Further evidence of the rapid development of the peninsula of Kowloon is forthcoming in the activities of a number of workmen who, in the last few days, have engaged in demolition work on the premises known as Victoria Vlow, one of the older landmarks of Kow lann.

While it is difficult to any for how many years Victoria View has been standing, it is safe to say that the block is one of the oldest On 1.10 Peninsula. Ten years ago ench house had a tennis court, and fronted as they were they provided a pleasant tile backwater in the bustle of the developing area around them. The Kowloon Hotel and the private residence now known, as Marble Hall were built on part of the tennis courts, and how Victoria Viow Itself is to go. At present the block fa being used as a private hotel. It is not lo dlaappear entirely, for the moment at any rate. Only two of the houses constituting the block are being pulled down, to provide suitable building site for the erec- tion of more modern premises. The two houses are those on the Nathan Road site and when they have been demolished there will. be a vacant site suffleleatly large for the erection of an imposing block of property similar in many respects to the adjoining one facing Nathan Rond whieh is now ucnring completion.

Completion Next Year.

The new flata will front to Nathan Road on one side and Pek. ing Rond on the other. Building

operations will be carried further back on the Marble Hall side with the result that there will be ex- ceedingly roomy premises on that alde of the building on all floors.

The demolition of the two housen will be completed in a few days and after the site has been cleared; piling operations will be started. The new block should be completed before the end of next year and will be a pleasing addition to the modern buildings of the Peninsula and mark a further step forward in the development of Nathan Road.

The property now being demo- lished passed into the hands of Mr. Leung Kwat-tin some years ago, After consultation with Mr. Alfred J. Lane, architect, of China. Build Ing. plans have been prepared by Mr. S. L. Au and Mr. C. Y. Chiu for a block of modern flats to re- place part of the older building.
