A most exciting game was wit- nessed at Shameen on Monday afternoon when A. T. Lay defeat- ed C. E. Watson by three sets tó two in the final of the Men's Singles Championship of the Sha- meen Lawn Tonnis Club.

Some really brilliant tennia was seen. The match went the whole five sets and might have been any-¡ body's game right up to the last.

The first set was taken by Lay fairly easily. Watson not seeming to, settle down for some time, though he took the opening ramd, Lay then took five games in suc] cession, three of which went to deuce;' the seventh game trent toʻi Watson to fifteen: after three deuces Lay took the eighth game and the set at 6/2.

The next set was taken by Wat son with the greatest case; in fact, Lay only made nine points in the whole art, and the two fast games went to Watson at love making the score 6/1. ·

Portugal brought off a big sur- priss in the International Charity | Cup yesterday, defeating Scotland by four goals to one, and well de- serving their euccess.
