Many, many years ago, I believe even before very much was known about England, there was a certain part of China known as Wu Ling. In this district every man was cavalier, every man had tho sporting spirit, and every man was kind to his neighbour and treated all men equally. Consequently as time went on people all over China wanted to be known as Wu Ling men. No higher compliment could be paid. I am indebted to certain members for this interesting Information regard- Ing ancient Chinese history, hut 1 think you will agree that it is a happy thought to take this name as the Chinese equivalent of the Sports Club and thus indicate exactly what we want to be understood when we call this Club the Sports Club,

The toast of "Success to the Sports Club of Hongkong." was drunk with much enthusiasm. The formal side of the opening being over, the members relaxed, and it was fitting that the game to go down in the Club's history na being the first played should be one of "apliking" between His Ex- cellency and the Hon. Mr. A. G. Hynes.
Amongst those present were the Hon. Sir Shou-son Chow, the Hon. Dr. R. H. Kotewall, C.M.G., the Hon, Mr. B. D. F. Beith, Hon. Mr. C. Gordon Mackie, Mr. R. M. Dyor, Mr. E. Ralphs, Mr. J. P. Braga, Mr. M. K. Lo, and others.
Club Fees.
The Articles of Constitution of the new Club, in the main, state that the Club is to bo placed under the manage- ment of an equal number 'of Chinese and non-Chinese voting members Original voting members have donated a aum of $250 towards the cause of furnishing and fitting up of the Club in suitable style, and further, voting members, they have also paid an entrance fee of $50 each.

Ordinary members will pay an en- trance fee of $20 each. The monthly subscription for voting and ordinary members is to be $7.
The difference between a voting member and an ordinary member is that the ordinary, member will have no valce in the management of the Club, but apart from this he enjoys exactly the same privileges as voting member. Absent members will pay a fee of $5 per year.
