THE CHINESE CHURCH.

PRESENT AND FUTURE STATUS DISCUSSED.

The present and the future of the, Chinese Church was outlined by members of the Victoria Dio- ceaan Association at the Helena May Institute yesterday evening, when an "At Home" was held at which about 70 people listened with great interest to various speakers upon the subject.

The Rev. C. B. Shann, in com- menting on the Ministry, said that the whole position of the Chung Hua Sheng Kung Hui at the pre- sent time was one of transition. The old order was passing, he said, when the Missionary Socic- ties assumed the main responsibi- lity, and the new order of complete self-support had not yet arrived. This was reflected in many ways in the present Chinese Ministry, The Chinese clergy; said the spen ker, were still at times thought to be "the running dogs of the foreigner."

The speaker then 'considered the Ministry, dividing his analysis into four points.

Mina, E. S. Atkins gave an ad- dress on education, while the Rev. C. I. Blanchett spoke on the pre- sent and future of the Chineso Church in general.
