In the course of a few months, Hunan, Hupeh and Klangs were conquered; we then turned our forces enstwards, tak- ing Kiangsu and Chekiang. Dur- ing this period of military stress, the finances of the campaign were managed by me through the agency of the Central Bank of Canton. Throughout this trying time, the cash reserves were well secured, being, when I left Canton for Hankow, fully 60 per cunt. of the note issue.

The Government has undertaken to honour the banknotes issued by the Central Bank of China as well as the notes issued by the Commissariat of the General Headquarters, bearing tho inscription "subsidiary notes of the Central Bank." As a matter of fact, tho General Headquarters has already established agencies along the Tsingpu line for the redemption of these notes, but this task is now to be undertaken by the Ministry of Finance.
