NIGHT.

BRIGHT PROGRAMME AT STAR THEATRE.

At the Star Theatro last nighť| Jack Carter's Serenaders opened thele senson in Kowloon with a bright and jazzy programme that was woll received by the large audience present. A variety of well rendered numbers, nil of which followed each other with out a break except for the interval, were well received, especially some of the eccentric dancing which was very skilfully executed.

A great deal was heard of the orchestra, which proved to be adept at rendering jazz items and some solo plocos also won much applause. Mr. Teddy Woathor ford, at the piano, mado a hit with ala solo efforts "Indian Love Call" and "Kitten on the Keye," both of which he played very cloverly.

Mosers. Jack Carter, Bo-Diddly and Miss Valada Snow, the latter being the only lady in the show contributed enjoyable songs and other items, individually, and to gother:

A correspondent, writing from Luxembourg, thus describes the condition of the Iron and Steel in- dustries thore.

"Things in the steel world in Luxembourg are rosy, although makers maintain that profits are getting less on account of the higher wages and salaries which have to be paid. There is not a ton of steel to be obtained alther here or in Belgium or in Franco un- til after the now year. Germany might supply the deficit, but I am told that they would exceed their quota in the Continental Trust, and thereby Incur the penalty of 68. per ton excess.

Most of the works may be closed by then; the only ones in operation may be thone which own their ore supplies, pro- vided they are cheap.

"It may be mentioned that in Luxembourg and Belgium the lead- ing 'Roller' in a stoel mill gets about 68. per shift, as compared with 00s. per shift for the same workman in Britain. Lower grades are paid in proportion. Longer hours are worked on the Continent, but in these protected countries living is cheaper."

NEW FASHIONS IN FURS.

Mink, broadtall, ermina, caracal, Persian lamb, grey squirrel-the most fascinating of last season's fura, are to continue their trium- phant reign. Exclusive Autumn... and early Winter coats fashioned from them were diaplayed last month to a favoured few, by Re villon Freres, in their Salons at 180, Rogent-street. Many email points, however, in the work and style dis- tinguish these newest models from the coats that preceded them,

New Features,

A new feature of a coat in black Poraian lamb is its full, lo080 208 back. Equally novel is a moleskin cape cut so full that it hangs straight down contwise at the back and loses its capelike semblance. So full in the front, too, that, if liked, it can be cast cavalier- fashion over one shoulder..
