Wanton-Or Just Modern?
(This is a man's view of Miss 1928-in her wanton moods.)
Apart from her clothes, which appear to have aroused wrath in the breasts of certain folk who are strangely alike in their inability to auggest a sensible remedy, Miss 1928 does not err on the side of modesty in either her conversation, her manners, or hor make-up. Nevertheless, it is difficult, when in contact with her breezy assurance, to believe that she is quite the de- generato wretch she is so often painted.
Admittedly sho smokes a great i deal more than she was over ex- pected to smoke. She is also prone to introduce or at least tolerute- the risque in conversation. our fathers hold enshrined as the pleture of our mothers' girlhood. But could she, in all sanity; intro- duce the simpering hypocrisy of that unhygienically-dressed age to a 1928 tennis court, swimming- pool, or dance-room?
The paint so often overlooked is that the men moved first. Woman- hood throughout the ages has kept a business eye on the changing tastes, habits, &e, of its menfolk- it is 90 per cent. of a woman's busi- ness in life: So that; when, after the war, men demanded, so far as continuation of the possible, a straightforward, open-air existence they had tasted, the quick-moving intelligence of womanhood played up to the need. First and foremost, woman is meant for mating; and males must have at least a few things in common. The man who spends his leisure on a tennis court would have little in common with a girl who loved nothing so much
