For Fall From Worth.. With a Beige Felt-Chapeau

From Marcelle Lely

Teffer met than one with a past and woman with a future is a much, the same reasoning holds good in clothes -for discrimination is the secret of style:And she, who can sift the new from the old, will always be ahead of

the gang.

Each season, the designers pat ont sume models that are entirely new in feeling and in design, and others that are reheated, and rewarmed from the season before, that can slide along for another six months or so on their past glory

Unless you cultivate the eye of the eagle, it is very easy to be imposed upon, and to purchase something that has reached the peak of its popularity, or passed it, and completely overlook some new mode that has yet to make its way in the world.

There are many so called "new fall models" to be seen, and many of them will be discarded completely before the winter, while others will be developed and improved, and become the leading. models of the winter. Therefore, it is well to watch some of fashion's straws and determine the direction of the winds.

HERE are some points to remember:

Skirts for daytime are fuller, and for evening dre mure irregular and

uneven.

Coats come in practically every length, with the seven-eighths length extremely popular.

Hip yokes dip in the back, and give the figure a swaying, swathed line that is decideally seductive.

The bloused bodice is frequently high in front and low in the back, showing a tendency to compromise between the high and the low waistline.

In willinery the wound turban, and the "skull cap" are close rivals of the clache and the small brimmed hat.

Lines are easy and graceful, diagonal and fluttering, rather than straight and

severe.

Besides the back fullness which has been featured all the summer, the full. side, by means of godets, circular insets, and tucks is featured.

In materials, rich fabrics in rich. colours are the rule. For daytime, black and the various browns lead, with red, grey, greyish green, and the beige tones. very lovely and appealing,

Colours for evening favour grey, gold, black and white, yellow, chartreuse, vivid red, sapphire blue, and various shades of pale and deep pink.

ILLUSTRATED on this page are some

styles with a future that can be depended upon to be smart all the winter. Interesting indeed is the fall hat at the upper left. It is in the medium large size, with a crown of black felt and the. brim of three shades of pink, with ́a Inscious bow of the shaded velvet at the side.

H your complexion will not look its Hestinder that flattering brim, and if it' does not take on a delicate, rosy pink, then you are past hope.

And you can pass right by the, smart cont dress from Beer at the upper right, for that combination, too, calls for a fresh lovely skin. This creation com- bines an upper part of Nile green crepe with a skirt of navy blue satin.

An interesting note is the way the skirt is appliqued into the upper section, and how this idea is repeated on the wide cuffs.

.

Less trying as, to colour is the model of beige crepe satin at the lower right. This has plain sides and back, a very full front, and á butterfly bow across the front. Here the plain and glossy sides of the material are contrasted to excel- lent advantage, and, form all the trimming necessary.

THE two interesting ensembles shown

are very French in their softness and chic. The short-coated model at the lower left is from Worth, and is developed in soft brown velvet, the upper part of the dress being of velvet of a lighter shade, with white polka dots.

Flared cuffs, and a velvet collar are new notes, and the circular front of the skirt gives the velvet a chance to fall in soft folds, with deep, intriguing high lights.

Particularly chic and appropriate for this costume is the beige felt chapeau that tops it. Simple in design, this hat clings softly to the head and has the visor-like brim that continues to be popular with Parisian milliners.

Gloves of beige doeskin, made in the tailored mannisli mode, and beige hose contribute nicely to the 'ensemble effect. The envelope style handbag is of solt, v brown leather,

The long-coated model at the top centre combines an interesting but simple frock of blue georgette, with a rep coat with diagonal folds, and luxurious collar and cuffs of grey fox. A simulated blouse in the back of the coat breaks the very straight line, and shows the new treatment that is more interesting. The lining of the coat matches the fur in colour.
