The judge first fixed the bond for each of the two men at Pesoa 40,000. Later, he lowered It to Pesos 30,000 and finally, after an. earnest plea by their attorneys, it was placed at Pesoa 20,000.

According to Mr. Frank H Young, Zamboanga attorney, Mr. Schlaterer, with two other Ameri- cana, left Zamboanga in July an a prospecting trip to the eastern coast of Mindanao.. After going some distance this party encounter- ed bad weather and returned to Sibuku, a, small town where Mr. Beyersdorffer, a former soldier, had had a plantation for the past ten

years.

The two companions of Mr. Schla terer Inter returned to Zamboanga but Mr. Schalaterer was forced to remain because he was exhausted from the trip and was suffering from fever.

Find 'Man in House,

On August 10, Mr. Schlaterer, Mr. Beyersdorffór, his wife, a na- tive woman, and her brother, Vicente Escoafo, were all at the Beyerdorfer home. Mr. Bayers. dorffer went into his wife's bed- room and accidentally found'n man hidden under the bed. He hurried to the kitchen to ask his wife who tho stranger was.
