What Diet Means to One-Minute Interviews. Speaking Your Mind.
Health.
[By a Woman Doctor.]

Diet plays an enormous part in health. To realise its importance wo must remember that the body is constantly undergoing a process of waste and repnir.
To possess perfect health, wo must supply the necessary con- stituents for repairing the waste, and yet allow a reserve.
A healthy perdon, always has a reserve in hand. An unhealthy person uses the power up as ho makes it, with the result that if there is an additional strain, he is exhausted.
There is no need to be a faddist over food. A nourishing, varied dlet is the best.
Fashion says we women must be alim. Many women in their haste to get tha have cut out fats entirely from their menu. This is unwise, and it is also unnecessary, as there are safer means of acquir ing a alim figure.
Fat is necessary for warmth, for resistance Lo colds and
respiratory complaints, and as a covering for vital organs. Thus if we are to be healthy we must have

"An artist should not have to make his art a means for earning his livelihood," Ruth St. Denis, famed dancer and co-founder of the Denishawn School of Dancing, said.

as it was in the Russian Imperial Ballot and in pre- war, days in Ger man court thes tres, it is a great templation for an artist to givo the people what they demand. One's eye Inovit- ably is on tho box-office.

is true of the output of most ar- tists. For to devole one's whole life to art, one must be supported. And patronage of wealthy persons is a dangerous thing. It is better to be self-supporting and give a smaller per cent, of one's time to Independent art."
clamouring for sweets is probably satisfying nature's call for more sugar. Without harmful effects he could be given fresh or dried fruits. Good boiled asweets and chocolate are quite permissible, but are bet ter given uparingly, and always at the end of, not during, a meal.
Fruit and vegetables supply valuable mineral salts that purify the blood and rebuild the tissues. The woman who wants to tone up her complexion, or the housewife on her off colour day, would benefit
by missing one or two meals a day
for a week, and taking nothing but fruit for those meals. Those off colour days are frequently, the result of toxin-poisoning, and plenty of fruit and vegetables will quickly dispel them.
Food Values.
Tomatoes contain a valuable vitamin; they should ha caten freely, preferably raw.
Lettuce, and onions are valuable for the nerves. If possible, they jare better eaten raw. If they must be cooked, cook them without soda, then drink the water.
Wholemeal bread is acknowledg ed to be superior to white in food value. Moreover, it is a valuable aid against constipation.
Porridge, especially if served with golden syrup, is another food hat helps to form daily habits. Also It has a big food value. It also has the navantage of being cheap and easily prepared.
Oatmeal biscuits are easily and jcheaply made at home. They make a sustaining meal for children's school lunch if raisins or cheese [are put between them. Moreover,
