PUPPY ON FERRY.
CHINESE LET OFF WITH A CAUTION,
When a Chinese was charged! before Mr. W. Schofield, at the Kowloon Magistracy this morning, with attempting to take a dog across the harbour by the Mong- kok ferry without a permit, Sub- Inspector Dick told his Worship that the constable allowed the de- fendant to pass through the gate and when he had boarded the ferry he was arrested,
The dog was stated to havo been about two weeks old and was being carried by the defendant.
Sub-Inspector Dick remarked to his Worship that the constable should have cautioned the' defen- dent before the latter had gone on the ferry, instead of waiting until he went on board and then arresting him,
His Worship said this, he thought, was the first time he had had such a case before him. Un- der the circumstances and in view of the dog's ago, he would merely caution the defendant.
