MR. BALDWIN ON
DRESS REFORM.
GIVES GENERAL ELECTION PROPHECY.
"WE ARE WINNING."
The Prime Minister made a tren- chant attack on Socialism and Its methods when addressing a great
20,000 demonstration of Yorkshire Conservatives at Bram- ham Park, the seat of Colonel Lane- Fox, M.P. for Barkston Ash.
He predicted the return of the Government at the General Elec- tion next year.
Colonel Lone-Fox described the gathering as "the greatest meeting ever held in the county."
The Socialist programme is, no longer naked, remarked Mr. Bald- win. It is Socialism in a dickey and white tie. Respectable as that costume may be, if not beautiful, It is too much for Mr. Maxton and Mr. Cool, and too much for that: man, whose name I forget, but who was recently turned out of a public gallery by a gallant Yorkshireman from Barnsley. (Cheers.)
If we have taught our opponents nothing in the last four years, the Prime Minister added, we have taught them this that if they wish to make an appeal to the English people, they must pul order before anarchy, gradualness before violence, and compensation before. confiscation. They must be clothed in an Eaglish dress, and Karl Marx, instead of looking like a German Hebrew, must be made to look like a Non-conformist Minister or a Trade Union leader. (Laughter and cheers.}
Socialist Menace.
However, the programme may be dressed, Mr. Baldwin proceedel, there is this fundamental difference between us. The Socialist, if he ins his way, will devour private property, individual initiative, ami personal responsibility, and he will do it conscientiously, because he believes in a vast State monopoly. He believes in controlling the free- dom and energy of each one of us at every point. We are as eagor as they to secure for all our people the largest possible measure economie freedom and economic welfare, but we do not believe that the only way to do this, is by trans-3 ferring the ownership and direc- tion of all industries to the State.
of
In our Party there is no, body of fixed doctrine as the Socialists have, who compels us to declare on every occasion, however absurd it may be, that State ownership is the one and only remedy for all our Roelal s. No such tyrannical pre- scription enslaves us.

The transfer will mean a modi- fication in policy. As at the New Gallery a continuous programme will be given, and, in all proba- bility, speaking photo-plays now exclusively shown at the New Gallery will be featured.
Built on the site, of the old Tivoli music hail by the Inte Mr. James While, it waa We are free

It is the methad which conforms most truly to our natural genlus and to our history. It is the method of a practical people, and not the method of drawing-room doctrinaires. We have tried to unite what is best in private action and Stale action for the good of all classes. (Cheers,)
"We Are Winning,"
Mr. Baldwin passed in review the Government programme of legislation.
He hoped that before long, pro- bably in the lifetime of the next Parliament, the electricity schemes would make a considerable contri- bution to the employment market. He earnestly hoped that the Agricultural Credits Art would prove to be of lasting, beneft,
The reform of local government, and the assistance of productive in- dustry should result not only in better local administration, but better institutional treatment for the sick poor, and a reduction of unemployment in the necessitous
areas.
"
We have time before us Mr. Bald win concluded.' We are engaged in a strong match, which we are win- ning. Next year will be half-time and the whistle will blow, but' we shall go on in the second half as we have done in the first, and com plete this legislation, to which we | have set our hands. (Cheers).
