American Express Travelers Chèques

Definition of TRAVELLERS' CHEQUES-

"The system of Travellers Cheques was originated in 1801 by the American Express Company with the object of creating a form travel currency which would give the holder the security of a letter of credit and at the samo time the convenience of local currency. The Company registered the cheques under the trade CHEQUES of AMERICAN EXPRESS TRAVELERS the word "Travellers' being spelled with one "1" This advantag of the Cheques was so apparent that other banking Institutions adopted the system."
