GALA PROVES A BIG SUCCESS.

Shameen, Aug. 19. One of the most successful swimming galas ao far organised by the Canton Swimming Bath Club was held on Saturday even- ing. The handicapping had been most carefully worked out and re- sulted in the very keenest racing. Worthy of note in the fact that, with the exception of the last event on the programme, not more than a second's, time divided the winners from the runners-up in each of the races.
