Sai Nam, in which ship ho remained three years later appointments were to the Kin- shan as Chief Officer, the Honam, in which ship he remained 14 years: back to the Kinshan in command; to the Langshan and Taishan at vary. Ing times and for varying periods, during which he had been appointed master, dating from 1907.
Captain Bell Smith's service with the Steamboat Company has been without untoward incidont. As a master, he has been extremely cap- able and has gained many friends and the appreciation of his employers. At 55 years of age, he may well lock forward to a long spell of comfort, well earned, and the good wishes of the seafaring community will follow him and Mr. Bell Smith among the Yorkshire dales, where the ship
master intends to settle.
