Tightening the body bolts, how- ever, isn't the only nece vity these days. There are some engine bolts, crews and clampa that should be tightened up in order to avoid wants of power and efficiency.

Underneath the chassis, the transmission case, the differential, the brake rod supports and other parts need checking up to see that they are secure. At the same time these parts may be cleaned of all accumulated mud of winter.

Cleaning and tightening pre- pares the car for another year of good usage.

The spark plugs need changing about once a year, if the car is used to any considerable extent. But at least, they should be taken out, cleaned thoroughly and returned fresh for another summer of motor- ing.

The parts underneath the hood, like the vacuum tank, generator, carburetor, ignition unit, fuel and air cleaners and horn, should be fastened more securely to their foundations in order to avoid rat- tling.

The fan belt should be tested so that it is light and is giving the best service.

Then there are the connexions in the ignition system-at the ballery, at the switch on the dash, at the apark plugs and the distributor, at the lamps and the horn. A loose connexion might, at some inop- portune time, break away altogether and cause considerable trouble.

Sometimes it is good advice to tighten the wheels on their bear- ings, und to take a turn or ao on the lugs. This will avoid wheel wabble and uneven wear on the tyres.
