DR. KOCH'S QUESTIONS AT
SANITARY BOARD.
Questions relative to the teach ing of hygiene in schools and the application of auch teaching to local conditions wore asked by Dr. WV. M. Koch and answer d by Mr. W. J. Carrie at a meeting of the Sanitary Board" yesterday afternoon.
Dr. Koch asked the following question:
“A GOOD SPORTSMAN.”
RECORDER AND FORMER CAPTAIN'S MANLY ATTITUDE:
Douglas Henry Pegler, aged 88, former Captain in the Royal Field Artillery, a sub-inspector In the Special Constabulary, and a prominent Rugby footballer, was sentenced to nina months' im- prisonment in the second division at the Old Bailby for obtaining 446 by means of forged cheques.

Hyglene is Taught. Replying, Mr. Carrie said: The Director of Education reports as follows. Hygiene is taught in all government schools and all grant in-aid schools. It is taught in the teachers' classes at the Technical Institute. It is also taught in all vernacular schools having Stan- dard IV and upwards. In the urban districts the proportion of such schools is approximately 75%. In all cases stress is laid upon the application of hygiene to local conditions. The vernacular
schools use a book specially com piled for Hongkong. Except in the case of very young children, there are written or oral tests periodically.
Whose Book?
Dr. Koch: May I enquire whether they use the book supplied by Dr. Pearse some years ago?
The Chairman replied that he could not answer that question at the moment but intimated that he would enquire.
The remainder of the business was formal.

The Recorder (Sir Ernest Wild, K.C.) said that Pegler's magni- cent Army record, his work for the RIC, his misfortunes the manly attitude he had taken. up enabled hire to take a merciful view than he would otherwise have been able to do. Since his offence Pegler had acted as what was called "a good sportsman."

GERMAN POLITICS.
RESIGNATION OF MARX CABINET ACCEPTED.
The Jiji and the Kokumin warn the Southerners that internal strife will merely result in the sub- stitution of new military factions for the old, thereby negativing the gains in the Northern expedition.
The Chigai and Miyaka are frankly fearful that unless Japan takes timely action to forestall Feng Yu-hsiang and the Sovieta attempts to Bolshevise Manchurin, trouble is likely to spread even to Koren, as alleged attempts are al- rendy being made to stir up mal- content Koreans.-Reuter.
