Selection of mechanical and con- structional experts.-The new gun- boats now under construction are to be equipped with new type enginea. The different boats, however, are not to have similar engines, and it is thought advisable to select a squad of officers and artificers to be sent abroad for a course of study Bo as to be able to handle the new engines properly.
Plans along the lines sketched above are already under way, and in due course increased all round efficiency may be seen in the Naval Department,--Canton Gazette.
