COLOURS.

Ten new colour commandmente have just been issue by the diree- tors of British fashions which The modern bedroom is a cheery every smart woman will relent-place. No longer aro snowy lessly aboy this spring.

They have been issued in the spreado, do dear to the housewife of interests of British trade to all twenty years ago, the only correct those concerned in the drapery! business, so that a wastage of materials will be eliminated in articles that have to be prepared for wear in the fine weather.

The main suggestion that runs through this forecast of fashion- able colours fa that beige, the favourite of many sensons, should be supplanted by blue. Those who can wear blue should be pre- pared to do so now-for there is no doubt blues will be the colour craze of the year.

Uncertain days, when the sun tries to struggle through the clouds and conquers faintly, will be especially suitable for the wearing of "Phaston Flower," the soft shade of violet that is te ring the change with the mauves of last year.

4

There is pity, however, for those women who really love the econo- mies of beige and find it becam- ing. They will.cling, like die- hards, to the edict of the first colour commandment-the gazelle" shade, the dellente pastei fawn that in an example of a natural colour which will be dominant this spring. The second command- ment is also for them, for the next nearest thing to beige is "blush- rose," a charming shade of pink,. brighter rather than old rose, suitable for indoor or outdoor wear,

The third new shade is called; "Maris," so called from the col- our of the egg of the thrush, for in the north of England the old English name is still used for this: singing bird. Slim, delicate-look- ing debutantes will enjoy wearing "Mavis" lace at Ascot.

The brunette will favour the new delicate pale yellow, called "Maize."

"Chesnut" is sixth on the list. It is a rich reddish brown for ailks and woollens, wonderful for the wonten with deep brown eyes and red hair,

01

"Puritan," a dainty shade grey, is to be used in harmony with brighter colours, greens and reds.

The recent sunny days have brought out many spring clothes, including a surprising number of flower hate, Such hats are feature of spring millinery, and a close-fitting hat, almost entirely covered with tiny rosebuds, made in the helmet shape and pulled down wall over the ears, where' a small bunch of the buds dangle flopsely at either side, is a typical

Ruched ribbon stitch- ed on the pocket spirally would answer the same purpose, and a lit- tle knot of silken flowers would make a dainty finish to the centre.. An alternative design could be planned by making the pocket take the form of a docorative basket. The opening at the basket's mouth sould be effectively concealed by eseaping sprays of padded flowers and fruits made from "scrups of brightly coloured silk,
