Suen Kam-shun missed a sitter Reed for the Chinese fifteen minutes Wales after the opening, but made Thorpe amends with a wonderful goul Musson from an acute angle three minutes Owen Hughes later. It was a pleasant goal, not be- eause there was any special merit about the manner in which it was scored, but because it equalised the scores and robbed the Chinese of a victory, which, I should have regretted to see them oblain after their exhibition. The Chinese gain no credit for such unsporting
tacties, however much it may appeal to the riff-raff in the crowd.

IMMIGRATION & OPIUM
· PROBLEMS.
TO BE INVESTIGATED IN PHILIPPINES.
Decided to go to the bottom of the immigralan problem and the. opium situation in the Philippines, with special reference to legal ontry of Chinese with a view to the enactment of remendial legis-" lation, Governor General Stimoon will shortly name an investigation committee to enlarge on the work already started by Colonel Blan- ton Winship, aide to the Governor General, says the Manila Bulletion.
The committee, it was under- otood, is to be composed of three members with Colonel Winnip as chairman. The members will be Mr. H. C. Anderson, repre- sentative of the U. S. treasury department in the Phillipines and one department, secretary, probably Mr. Miguel Unson, act- Ing secretary of finance. Tho customs bureau is, under the france department.
Former Investigation.
Mr. H. C. Anderson was named special investigator of Chinese immigration by the late Governor General Wood last year. He sub- mitted a report of his Andings which was never made public.
The preliminary findings of Colonel, Winship who Roveral weeks ago was commissioned by the Governor General to look into the Immigration and oplum situation' is understood to have revealed a condition which requires a more thorough inquiry,

to curb it through the joint action. of customs, constabulary and secret service officially it is general- ly admitted to have thrived and is thriving with little government control.

FAMOUS CRICKETËR,
The late Roy Kilner, who has died from typhoid, contracted in India. Kilner was the famous Yorkshire all-rounder and news of his death has come as a great shock.
Sen Hawk,
Erstwhile with the assistance of that pupular young brat, Harold Seth, is sure to run a good racel for the Dominion Plate and Is almost aure to be in the picture at: the finish. O Moon will, however, undoubtedly be a big favourité, for this race is just about his dis- tanec. If Mowgli er Tarzan start here, they will fill the places.
For the Empire. Handicap "A" Class, Peck is carrying top weight;Į still, I am of the opinion he will make light of his impost and win by a comfortable margin from Coos Bay is he starts here. Blackstone Hall or Chemal should be the placers in the absence of Coos Bay.
My selections for to-day are:

Data was requested on the Phi- lipping situation, It was reported, because of the belief that the drug traffic thrived in the Philippinea due to its nearness to Java and other opium smoking countries."
Believing that the immigration- in the Philippines was not as it should be, Acting Governor Gil- more last year recommended a bill which would have put more teeth into the existing law..
The measure failed of passage In the legislature. Tho' Chinese Consul General, Lingoh Wang, now transferred to Batavia, was said to have been instrumental in do- feating the bill.
