Goodyear has developed a vastly different type of tyre-a tyre designed and built to achieve greater traction, smoother going and longer, slower wear. Let these distinct advan tages be yours-fit the new All Weather Tread Balloon.
Goodyear's Greatest Tyre" GOOD YEAR
This, is an artist's conception of the 1928, combining all improvements' shown in the various types of new cars at the New York show this year. allow to insure longer and better lighter metal.
[By Israel Klein.]
If one automobtle were built combining all the improvements that will be seen on the new cars to appear this year, it would have the following features:
The engine would have slightly larger bore and stroke, resulting in greater displacement, more power and longer life.
It would have a higher compres sion ratio, with the introduction pi
high compression cylinder heads and the use of special anti-knock fuole,
Aluminum alloy platons of the stool or invar-strut type would re- place the old cast-iron type.
Ita Inlet and exhaust valvea would be designed differently, more careful attention being paid to the exhaust side. These valves would be of a siliconchromium steel, while the inlet valves would remain of nickel steel construction,

More Even Fuel Feed.
The crankcase would be venti- Jated, permitted longer use for the 'esme oil.
The manifold would be nu de- aigned as to distribute the mixture more uniformly to all cylinders. To attain this, a hent control element for prelicating the incom- ing mixture would be provided, through use of some of the exhaust

Chassis frames would be dropp ned to allow for lower over-all
height of the ear.
A seven-bearing erankshaft, the six and eight cylinder modes, would have counterweights to de- crease the load on the main bear ings. Even the fours would have this feature.
Valve sprigs would he of the dual-type, either one alongside the other or one within the other, to avoid spring breakage.
The engine would be supported on rubber bushings to take up vibrations.
A more symmetrical propeller shaft would result from the use of sheet steel rolled up and welded."
And, of course, oil, air and fuel cleaners would be included.
Shorter and Wider Chassis... The chassis would have a slight y horter wheelbase, as trafic has demanded.
Its roar tread would be widened from 561⁄2 inches, to 58% inches, since we now have better and wider roads and need more com- fort inside,
The steering gear angle would be adjustable to the particular driver, So would the clutch and brake pedals.
Shimmy and wheel wobble would be obviated by the reduction steering gears and their reversibiä ty

Lower, Racter Body..... The body would be designed along much racier and lower lines, The radiator would be high and

Front corner posts in closed models would be narrow, for clear vision,
Instruments on the dish would be grouped artistically, and the would include thermométer, gaso- line gauge, oil gauge, ammeter and other essential controls.
Lights would be controlled by a lever at the wheel, replacing the spark control.
More leg room would be provide ed in front by turning the front of the body in along the sides of the fast cylinder,

Yet engineers aren't satisfied. They are experimenting with single sleeve valve engines and a new form of rotary valve. They look forward to the use of a superchar ger, since engines are attaining higher speeds. They even bopa for a front wheel drive to permit the bad designers greater leewar in effecting a roomier, more com fortable and racier type of body.
Fout speeds in the transmission are another hope of engineers, for they prontise easter driving, better control of the car and great. er economies with this type of drive. But this in costly, and the tendency is toward cheaper'auto- mobiles.
....
Whether the all-feature 1928 automobile is a four, six or eight, Its origine would have a high re- volutionary speed, compared with the types of years ago. But engineers are balking at going much higher than 3000 revolutions a minute at peak, because of the sacrifice they would have to make in size of bearing surfaces and in the ultimate life of the car.
